Frequently Asked Questions.
How many pounds of Zeolite Max do I need on my artificial grass to help control my dogs urine smell?
Sometimes the amount of Zeolite Max you will install on top and underneath your turf depends on the size of the animal. However, we recommend to install 1.5 to 2 pounds per square foot. Utilizing Zeolite Max as a turf infill will save you the unwanted odors and help your turf blades stay up.
For larger dogs or multiple dogs that will use your synthetic grass, we recommend 3 to 4 pounds per square foot of our Zeolite Max.
For an average dog (44lbs/20kg) what would the spread rate be on artificial grass?
For an average dog weighing at 44 pounds or 20 kilograms, we recommend to install 2 lbs per square foot or 10 kilograms per square meter.
How many square feet does one 50 pound bag cover?
- For a single small dog that weighs up to 40lbs : One 50 pound bag will cover 40 square feet.
- For a single medium dog that weighs between 40 and 50 pounds: One 50 pound bag will cover 25 square feet.
- For a single large dog that weighs more than 50 pounds: One 50 pound bag will cover 15 to 20 square feet.
- For multiple dogs: One 50 pound bag will cover 12 square feet.
PLEASE NOTE: It is essential to have the amount specified applied to your synthetic turf in order to experience the full benefits of Zeolite Max. The bigger the dog or the amount of dogs using the turf, the larger the amount of Zeolite Max will be required.
Why is Zeolite Max dusty?
Zeolite Max is crushed and bagged on site. The dust is one of the most important aspects of Zeolite Max to help control odors. Once the product is installed, the dust will settle as it is used. Once Zeolite Max is installed in the turf, hose it down with water to decrease the amount of dust.
What is in Zeolite Max? Is it safe?
Zeolite Max is 100 percent volcanic ash and is safe for children and pets. Our product absorbs moisture, traps odors, contains no added chemicals, absorbs ammonia, contains no perfumes or dyes and is environmentally friendly.
What if my dog eats Zeolite Max? What will happen?
Your dog will experience no harm if it consumes Zeolite Max. In fact this material is often created to detoxify animals by including it in their feed for animals such as horses, cows and pigs. Zeolite Max is not sold for human consumption.
Will Zeolite Max plug the holes in my turf?
No, because Zeolite Max is 100 percent permeable. Because of this material’s porous structure, the water will be absorbed in Zeolite Max’s structure and then forced directly through it. Once the water source stops, Zeolite Max will retain the moisture longer than other infills. However, for Zeolite to capture odors efficiently, it should be dry.
When Zeolite Max is wet, will it produce mold?
No, mold will grow when there is continuous moisture in the given area. Zeolite Max will dry efficiently depending on the amount of water the product will experience.
Will Zeolite Max harm the turf fibers?
No, Zeolite Max is rated between a 4 and 5 on the Mohs Hardness scale, whereas a typical silica sand is rated between 6 and 7. The Zeolite Max will likely crush before tearing the turf fibers because of the hollow honeycombed structure. This product will last as long as the life of your synthetic grass.
Will Zeolite Max hold the turf fibers as recommended by manufacturers?
Yes, Zeolite Max has been approved by all major turf manufacturers as a viable product to properly hold turf fibers upright.
What is the Mohs’ Scale of Hardness?
According to the 2009 Encyclopedia Britannica, the Mohs’ Scale of Hardness is the rough measure of an object’s hardness. This scale was developed by a German Mineralogist in 1812 to determine a numerical value to a mineral’s surface. For example talc would be rated a 1 on this scale because it is very easily scratched by a fingernail whereas a diamond would be considered a 10 because it is a very hard surface that would need to be cut with a glass cutter.
Why do I need Zeolite Max for my putting green?
Unless the dog is trained to avoid your putting green, a dog will do their “business” where and when they need to.
What happens if I did not use enough Zeolite Max on my turf?
Simply add more Zeoltie Max to your synthetic grass!
How often do I need to replace Zeolite Max?
Never. Zeolite Max is a one-time application, however, if you still are experiencing smells in your synthetic grass, applying more to your grass would be necessary. Always remember the size of your animal and the amount of animals using your synthetic grass directly correlates with the amount of Zeolite Max needed for your synthetic turf landscape.
How long can Zeolite Max hold the ammonium in its honeycomb cavities?
Because Zeolite Max holds a minimum of 55% of its weight and is a negative charge property, the Zeolite Max will recharge itself when dry, however bacteria will still be present. Majority of the time it will hold the gases until the sodium ion in heavy rain water flushes out the bacteria completely. Sodium ion in heavy rainwater forces the bacteria out of the Zeolite Max and into the ground. Once dry, Zeolite Max will continue to hold any gases from escaping.
Rainwater is naturally Ph balanced due to the presence of carbon dioxide, nitric oxide, sodium ions and sulfur dioxide found in the Earth’s troposphere.
It is recommended to use an anti-microbial infill in addition to the Zeolite Max infill.
Does it smell after prolonged dry spells without rain?
Zeolite Max holds the smell for long periods of time. Eventually your synthetic grass/Zeolite Max will need a liquid enzyme cleaner to remove unnecessary bacteria.
We don’t get much rain. Can I flush out the Zeolite Max by hosing it off?
Yes. You can water down the turf, just let the granule dry properly. Zeolite Max takes up to two day to dry. The granules work wet, but needs to dry in order to continuously prevent odorous gases from releasing.
How does rain water change Zeolite Max?
Rainwater’s sodium ion will release Zeolite Max’s magnetic properties and then the rain’s force will push the urine bacteria deep into the ground. Zeolite Max will naturally re-charge itself when it dries.
Is Zeolite Max a better solution than a liquid turf deodorizer?
Because Zeolite Max is a natural negatively charged product, it will contain the ammonium bacteria and prevent it from escaping for anywhere between months and years. Liquid turf cleaners and enzyme solutions will eat the bacteria but will not completely solve the smell problem. It is best to use this cleaner every six months if you live in a drier climate.
Will Zeolite Max affect my live plants?
No, Zeolite Max is a natural organic material that occurs naturally in the environment. It will not hurt live plants. When combined with artificial grass, Zeolite Max will mostly stay intact within the installation’s thatch layer and underneath your synthetic grass application.
I have purchased a product similar to Zeolite Max from another company. What makes Zeolite Max better than the other company?
Zeolite Max comes from the purest mine in the world. At 98% purity rate, other companies would have to sell you up to twice as much materials to accomplish the same odor controlling properties as Zeolite Max. We also don’t have any properties which can destroy or shred the turf fibers and Zeolite Max will drain 100%. One company claims to have a 95% purity rate which has impurities that contain lead and volcanic glass.
Can I purchase zeolite materials from another company and use it on my grass?
Every volcano ash sold in the world has different DNA properties and uses. Zeolite Max is 98 percent pure and has a hardness of 4 to 5 on the Mohs Scale of Hardness, which is not hard enough to tear synthetic grass fibers. Zeolite Max is the only company approved by all turf manufacturers in the USA. This product is the best infill choice for synthetic grass installations.
The company that installed my turf last month recommended Zeolite Max but I don‘t smell my dog’s urine now (December). When is the best season to put Zeolite Max on my turf?
Anytime is a good time! You can install Zeolite Max in any season and it will work in all weather for all types of applications.
Is Zeolite Max an organic material?
Zeolite Max product is an inorganic material. Organic substances contain a carbon molecule, usually bonded to hydrogen. Inorganic substances, like Zeolite Max, do not contain carbon. It is labeled as ‘certified organic’ only because it is allowed to be used to grow ‘organic’ foods.
